How to measure joy, affective project outcomes

As a project manager and a professional working in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), I have observed that some of the most meaningful outcomes, such as confidence, inclusion or joy, are often missing from our log frames.

These outcomes fall within the affective domain, which is frequently overlooked because feelings are considered subjective and difficult to measure. However, should these outcomes be excluded entirely? I do not believe so.

Indicators do not have to be numerical to be valid. What matters is that they are observable by others. That is what makes them measurable. After all, not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts.

This video considers how we can measure the outcomes we feel but struggle to quantify.

At MediaEdge Innovations Nigeria, we are passionate about building MEL systems that combine measurable outcomes with understanding of human complexity.
